Training to Kickstart your Career in Construction

A decline in the number of EU-born workers in the UK construction industry, combined with a surge in demand, has created a squeeze on labour. Contractors are finding it harder to recruit workers at existing rates and are facing cost increases. Data from the Office for National Statistics revealed that more than one in four EU- born construction workers had left the industry between September 2019 and September 2020, and only a few have returned.

We see the impact of this every day at The Shore Group. Our Recruitment division supplies to some of the largest construction projects in the UK, and we have noticed a huge reduction in the amount of Eastern European labour available. However, rather than focus on the potential negatives of the situation we’ve looked at what opportunities this presents to encourage new people into the industry. One of the biggest barriers to entry we’ve seen is the cost encountered when trying to undertake essential training to obtain skills cards.

As such we have teamed up with Functional Skills UK and have developed a three day, fully funded ‘Prep for Construction’ course. Over the three days, delegates will undertake:

• Level 1 award in Health and Safety in Construction (including CSCS card)
• Level 2 First Aid at Work
• Manual Handling Awareness
• Asbestos Awareness

As part of the course delegates will also receive a 121 consultation with one of our experienced consultants to support in finding work. This is a great opportunity to obtain fully funded training, and the potential of regular ongoing work with a career in construction.
